CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Oka Kapassa Festival begins in downtown Tuscumbia with a crafts preview at 5:00 p.m., a concert by Arvel Bird at 7:00 p.m. and a torch lighting at 8:00 p.m. to honor Native American history — tomorrow, the festival will feature dance demos, cooking shows and a living history display at the Coldwater Stagecoach Stop until 5:00 p.m., with events moving indoors at Northwest Shoals Community College if the weather changes. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials in Decatur said traffic signals at three intersections on 6th Avenue will be replaced with stop signs as part of a roadway and landscaping project. The work will begin on September 15 and signals will flash for at least one week before removal—drivers should use caution. News 19
- ➤ Parks and Recreation director Hunter Allen has expanded the hours for city recreation facilities and parks to give residents more leisure time. The schedule change will go into effect soon and is expected to boost facility use — a key measure in his early initiatives. Decatur Daily
