- ➤ Decatur Parks & Recreation is building a new 100,000-square-foot rec center with Olympic-sized swimming lanes, a walking track, and basketball courts while also upgrading softball fields near Austin High and adding batting cages at Wilson Morgan Park. Director Hunter Allen said local users will get first priority and that a mobile app for league registration and payments will launch by the end of September—with the rec center set to be completed next summer. - ➤ The North Alabama Airfest will take place at Pryor Field Regional Airport in Tanner on September 13 and 14—featuring vintage warbirds, modern jets, and family activities such as rides and interactive displays. - ➤ On September 5, several Decatur citizens filed a lawsuit claiming ballots at some polling sites did not list all mayoral candidates, which they say compromised the election and led them to ask a judge to stop certifying the results and keep election materials for a possible recount—preserving key evidence for review.
