CRIME NEWS

  • An Eva man, Christopher Stephen Shadix, 56, was charged with drug trafficking after officers found fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and digital scales during a traffic stop near Point Mallard Parkway on Sunday and he was booked into Morgan County Jail without bond as authorities reviewed a prior case.  News 19
  • Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at Summer Courtyard Apartments on Acadia Drive early Sunday around 12:53 a.m.—they arrested 20-year-old Kobe Cowan after he unlawfully entered an apartment and physically assaulted a victim, and he is now held without bond in Morgan County Jail under Aniah’s Law.  WAAY-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that on Monday, June 2, regular gas in Decatur cost $2.64 while Huntsville and Florence-Muscle Shoals recorded $2.69 and $2.74 respectively — the national average for regular gas was $3.14, with midgrade and premium fuels costing even more. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Seven volunteers from Tennessee Riverkeeper removed about 280 pounds of trash from Wheeler Wildlife Refuge on the Tennessee River, filling 14 trash bags and 4 bags for recyclables—mostly plastic items like bottles, styrofoam, and shopping bags along with a tire and traffic cones.  News 19
  • Seven volunteers from Tennessee Riverkeeper removed about 280 pounds of trash from Wheeler Wildlife Refuge along the Tennessee River—collecting 14 bags of trash and four bags of recyclables as part of ongoing efforts to reduce plastic pollution in local waterways.  Rocket City Now

  • Decatur welcomed Torry Mack as its new police chief as he was sworn in on Monday at Ingalls Harbor. Mack said his goal is to bridge gaps with the community and build trust, and city leaders are optimistic about the fresh start—hoping he will guide the department through challenging times.  WAAY-TV
