  • A group of Buddhist monks hosted a Peace Gathering in Decatur Tuesday as part of their ongoing 2,300-mile trek promoting peace — the walk began in Fort Worth on Oct. 26 and has drawn more than 400,000 social media followers.  Rocket City Now
  • Decatur's 41st annual Polar Bear Plunge will take place Thursday, Jan. 1 at noon at Ingalls Harbor & will bring locals together to welcome the New Year.  Decatur Daily
  • Brad Johnson volunteers most days at Hands Across Decatur to help the city's homeless community by fielding calls, recruiting volunteers, cooking meals, and shopping for groceries.  Decatur Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Black ice is a nearly invisible layer that can catch drivers off guard on bridges and in shaded road sections early in winter mornings. Decatur motorists are advised to slow down and check their tires and windshield fluid (especially on overpasses) when temperatures near freezing.  Rocket City Now

  • Point Mallard Golf Course will close on Jan. 19 for a three-month improvement project to upgrade irrigation and playing conditions for future tournaments. Some holes may reopen on a limited basis during construction + details can be confirmed at the clubhouse.  Rocket City Now
