  • Businesses are now rounding cash transactions to the nearest nickel—since pennies stopped being made on Nov. 12, no law in Alabama requires giving exact change. Some stores use different rounding methods while credit and debit purchases still charge the precise price.  Rocket City Now

  • Mary Alice Espinosa (19 years in teaching) was named FOX54 Top Teacher and teaches third grade at Danville-Neel Elementary School. She celebrated Pioneer Day with fun craft stations (helping her students learn) today, and her principal praised her support for every child.  Rocket City Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said the $10 million Sixth Avenue Southeast beautification project is on schedule and remains in early stages of an 18-month plan—updates will be provided as work progresses.  Decatur Daily
