  • The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce announced a social media challenge that encourages locals to shop and share photos with #LoveWhereYouLiveMorganCo until noon on December 12 for a chance to win gift cards from member businesses — the contest runs across Morgan County from Decatur to Hartselle and Falkville.  Decatur Chamber of Commerce

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dozens of high school athletes across North Alabama signed their letters of intent on Wednesday and will join various colleges to play sports. The list includes athletes from Athens High School, Bob Jones High School and James Clemens High School—committing to institutions such as the University of North Alabama and Calhoun Community College.  WAAY-TV
  • Decatur schools have experienced a special education teacher shortage after one teacher resigned because his role included supporting a high school— officials are working to adjust assignments and find new teachers to ensure students receive proper support.  Decatur Daily
  • Decatur City Schools said the secure perimeter at Oak Park Elementary School was lifted after an isolated incident posed no danger to the public—normal operations resumed as police confirmed there was no threat.  News 19

  • Decatur lawmaker Collins has pre-filed a bill to make Alabama’s statewide Imagination Library Program commitment permanent — a step that may help more children get free books.  Decatur Daily

  • High school football playoffs will start tomorrow in the Tennessee Valley with many teams, including Madison Academy and others, set to compete in second round matchups.
