  • Downtown Decatur will see many Mrs. Roper lookalikes on Saturday in a Mrs. Roper Romp across local businesses to raise funds for local nonprofits—organizers say the event will boost support for several charities.  Decatur Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • United Launch Alliance is increasing production of Vulcan rockets at its Decatur plant as it focuses solely on this model at the world’s largest rocket factory. CEO Tory Bruno said he finds the decision bittersweet+ the move is expected to boost production efficiency and secure local jobs+ as the facility expands.  Decatur Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kassie Duke, a first grade teacher at Lacey’s Spring School, was named the Chamber’s SuperStar Teacher for October and received a $150 classroom gift card, a $50 personal gift card, and a $1,000 grant—sponsored by Hubbard and Drake and GE Appliances. Her award honors her creative teaching and hands-on methods that help students learn.  Decatur Chamber of Commerce
  • An art teacher at East Limestone High School who previously taught at Decatur City Schools was named secondary art teacher of the year by the Alabama Art Education Association — the award honors excellence in art education.  Decatur Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Director Hunter Allen adjusted Aquadome Recreation Center's hours this week as part of his ongoing changes to Parks and Recreation operations.  Decatur Daily
  • The Alabama Department of Veteran Affairs is asking the public for help to find about 110 acres of calm farmland in North Alabama for a new state veterans cemetery that will give 400,000 veterans a respectful final resting place. Commissioner Jeff Newton has met with local officials in Madison, Morgan, and Limestone counties — he said finding the right property is a top priority.  News 19
  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is hosting its 90th annual State Trooper Exhibit at the Morgan County Archives at 624 Bank Street in Decatur — the exhibit shows how the agency has evolved and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. this week.  News 19

SPORTS NEWS

  • Calhoun Community College’s men’s and women’s cross country teams are headed to Fort Dodge, Iowa to compete in the NJCAA Division II National Championships tomorrow at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. They earned their spots by finishing third at the ACCC/Region 22 Championships on October 25 and are set to build on their quick rise under Coach Dante Dorsey—who started the program in 2024.  Rocket City Now
