COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Siniard Law will sponsor 500 meals at Betty Mae's Restaurant on Nov. 7 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The event will offer free meals to local residents as part of a community initiative.  Rocket City Now
  • Little Carter Nicholson, 7 (from Lacey’s Spring) wore a T. rex costume and pointed out his favorite part at the STAR Fall Festival for Special Needs. The event featured fun games and activities for children and families in the community.  Decatur Daily

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Decatur City Schools set up a reunification point at Austin Middle School after a bus crashed Friday morning on Modus Road and Centron Drive—officials said the bus sustained heavy damage and injuries have not been confirmed.  News 19

BUSINESS NEWS

  • 3M in Decatur announced that it will lay off about 170 employees and reduce production by early 2028 — the company said the changes are part of a restructuring plan.  Decatur Daily
  • Google and Disney remain in a standstill over a new agreement for YouTube TV that may limit access to local WAAY TV—an ABC affiliate. WAAY TV and its parent, Allen Media, are not part of the talks—viewers can still watch using over‐the‐air signals or other providers.  WAAY-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Morgan County Schools are upgrading campus safety by installing 27 new portable defibrillators to meet a state law that requires these devices at athletic events—each unit features a touchscreen and sends GPS alerts to local EMS. The superintendent said the upgrade will help ensure faster emergency aid on school campuses.  WAAY-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Limestone County Health Department released inspection scores for food and lodging establishments inspected from October 20-24, with scores ranging from 85 to 99. Corrections were made on site for issues at places such as Little Caesars and Christo's Dari Delite—showing efforts to improve food safety.  WAAY-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • FOX54's First Down Friday Night recapped the final week of regular season games — some teams head to the playoffs while others end their season — and showed scores and highlights from games on Thursday and Friday. The broadcast detailed results from many matchups including wins by teams like Jasper and Sheffield.  Rocket City Now
