- ➤ Food Bank of North Alabama is acting fast to help families as more than 750,000 people will lose SNAP benefits on November 1 due to the government shutdown; the bank has ordered two extra truckloads of food and will host a food handout for furloughed government workers at Wicks Family Field (11 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow). CEO Shirley Schofield said the nonprofit is treating this man-made crisis like a natural disaster and is working with city officials to set up more food events. WAAY-TV

- ➤ Army Corporal Jeffery Williams—injured in 2004 by an IED in Iraq—uses the EksoBionics exoskeleton through the Alabama VA program to walk again and regain his independence; he now trains to take up to 400 steps per session and plans to enjoy dinner standing tall at Connors Steakhouse. WAAY-TV
