- ➤ The Madison County District Attorney’s Office announced that no criminal charges will be filed after Deshler High football player August Borden sustained a severe skull fracture and concussion on Aug 19—an incident that required his hospitalization. WAAY-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Rock the South will move its festival from Cullman to Decatur next summer on a 150-acre site off Gordon Terry Parkway—city officials expect about 30,000 visitors and a boost of millions for local businesses. - ➤ TVA will begin an infrastructure improvement on Wheeler Dam on Oct. 19—this project will affect road traffic for up to five months. Decatur Daily
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Public Health says flu season starts in October and lasts until May with a peak in January to February and data from the southern hemisphere shows vaccines are effective for a mild season. Huntsville Hospital saw an early rise in cases last week and is taking extra precautions by using mask wearing and extra cleaning — local providers are now offering flu shots. News 19
- ➤ Today, the Alabama Department of Public Health warned that rabies remains a serious threat after cases were reported in pets, livestock, and wildlife. Residents are urged to vaccinate their animals and seek prompt care for bites or scratches—vaccines are required by law for dogs, cats, and ferrets. News 19
- ➤ The Morgan County Health Department released health inspection scores for food and lodging establishments inspected from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4; in Decatur, scores ranged from 82 to 98 and Union Hill Nutrition Center earned a perfect 100—critical items at several sites were promptly abated through corrective actions.
