ECONOMY NEWS

  • More than 50 employers from Decatur and other parts of north Alabama and hundreds of job seekers attended a job fair at Calhoun Community College’s Huntsville campus. The event connected local workers with available opportunities—linking numerous businesses with hopeful applicants.  Decatur Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Chamber held its 2025 Washington Update on September 25 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Decatur Riverfront where Congressman Dale W. Strong and over 150 business members discussed infrastructure, workforce initiatives, and Space Command opportunities. The event featured moderator Wade Weaver, special guests Kelli Powers and Reverend Chase Ackerman, and sponsors TTL, Inc.—all providing local leaders with insights into federal planning.  Decatur Chamber of Commerce
  • USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins designated 25 Alabama counties as primary natural disaster areas due to heavy rains from May 1 until June 30—making farmers in these and 14 nearby counties eligible for FSA emergency loans. Alabama Commissioner Rick Pate said the heavy rain hurt planting and that eligible farmers have until September 15 to apply.  Rocket City Now
  • Decatur officials proposed a fiscal 2026 budget that cuts police officer positions to fund department raises—the plan may restore roles later if funds allow.  Decatur Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alabama can now apply for funds from a $50 billion rural health program included in the July GOP-led budget — the program is open to several states and will help improve health services in rural areas.  Decatur Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, high school football takes center stage in Week 5 across the Tennessee Valley—Decatur plays Lee at Milton Frank Stadium at 7 p.m.  Rocket City Now
