ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported on September 22 that regular gas prices in North-Alabama cities were below the national average. Huntsville had $2.75 per gallon while Decatur and the Florence-Muscle Shoals area recorded prices of $2.70 and $2.71 respectively.  Rocket City Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama cities must decide by October 1 if they will collect a 10-cent per milliliter tax on vape products, while Decatur said it will collect the tax for local projects without changing business rules—sticking to the state law that already planned for the tax. Decatur's revenue manager Lori Rossetti explained that the move keeps more funds in the community for improvements.  News 19
  • Pam Werstler came from behind to defeat Sarah French in Tuesday's runoff for Decatur City Council District 4—ensuring she now holds a seat on the council.  Decatur Daily
  • Polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. yesterday in Tennessee Valley cities — Decatur, Athens, Boaz, Florence, Fort Payne, Guntersville, Hartselle, Madison and Moulton — for municipal runoff elections, and voters provided acceptable photo ID and voted based on their home address.  News 19

  • Cole Thorn returned to West Morgan practice on Monday after a brain injury in the Sept. 12 game; doctors expected his full recovery, and teammates gave him high fives and hugs—showing his strong progress.  Rocket City Now
  • Denzer Guzmán earned Southern League Postseason All-Star honors after an outstanding 2025 season with the Rocket City Trash Pandas—he became the sixth player in team history to be honored and had a five-hit game on July 13 in Chattanooga.  Rocket City Now
