EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, Calhoun Community College is unveiling an expansion of its advanced technology center that will support more STEM programs, with training in machine tool technology, welding, and aerospace. President Dr. Jimmy Hodges said the expanded center features 60 new welding booths—part of the best-equipped machine tool program in the south—and will add courses in aviation mechanics and diesel training. - ➤ A state-funded program called Pathways to Progress is helping adults with associate’s degrees earn bachelor’s degrees at four universities—two in North Alabama—by giving up to $3,000 per semester to full-time students on a first-come, first-serve basis. The grant aims to remove financial hurdles so more local learners can finish college and boost the workforce. News 19

- ➤ A Morgan County Circuit Judge dismissed a lawsuit filed on Sept. 4 by Maurice Ayers that challenged Decatur’s mayoral election results — the judge said the complaint did not meet legal requirements as it failed to name the winning candidate. Ayers had claimed over 100 ballots were misprinted by listing only two candidates and sought to delay the mayor’s swearing-in. AL.com
- ➤ The 6th Avenue streetscape project started on Monday with drivers seeing three flashing stoplights at Prospect Drive, Jackson Street, and Johnston Street. City officials said the stoplights will be removed early next year—improving traffic flow as part of a $10 million plan that will finish in early 2027. News 19
