  • First Priority of Decatur will host its ninth annual Cornhole Classic—drawing local teams and players together—for participants and spectators on Sept. 27.  Decatur Daily
  • Scarecrows in the Park is a fall fundraiser organized by the Junior League of Morgan County that will benefit the Child Advocacy Center—organizers hope to showcase the most scarecrows yet during the October event.  Decatur Daily

  • The Decatur-Morgan County Entrepreneurial Center has reached record client numbers and high school participation in its CEO class and will soon open a new business incubator in Hartselle to boost local start-ups.  Decatur Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Calhoun Community College enrollment continues to grow this fall and President Jimmy Hodges expects final numbers will show a 20% increase in students—marking a rise from last fall.  Decatur Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Decatur announced a Household Chemical Collection event that will take place at 1802 Central Parkway on Saturday, September 13 from 9 a.m.—noon where residents may drop off items like batteries, motor oil, and paint with a limit of 100 pounds per household.  News 19
  • TVA is hosting a tour of Wilson Dam as it nears its 100th anniversary tomorrow — the dam powers 380,000 homes and helps with navigation and flood control on the Tennessee River. TVA teams will inspect and update dam parts with a new hydro life extension program to keep the facility safe for the future.  News 19

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Morgan (3-0) and Priceville (3-0) will face off Friday night at Priceville Elementary School in a game that promises playoff-like intensity. Coaches Phillips and Parker, who once worked together at Athens, say both teams are confident after strong starts to the season.  WAAY-TV
