- ➤ AAA reported that as of August 26, Decatur drivers paid $2.73 for regular gas, $3.19 for mid-grade and $3.54 for premium fuel. The report showed Huntsville and Florence-Muscle Shoals had regular gas at $2.80 and $2.79 respectively — the national average for regular gas was $3.19. Rocket City Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews with Decatur Utilities worked on power lines along 14th St SW near Corrine Ave SW & Austinville Road SW on Tuesday. The inside lane was closed and drivers were told to merge carefully around heavy equipment in the work zone. News 19
- ➤ Decatur voters head to the polls today to choose new city leaders as residents push for a fresh start—free from past controversies like the handling of the 2023 police shooting death of Steve Perkins. Many hope the election will bring unity and better government decisions after ongoing protests and dissatisfaction with former Mayor Tab Bowling. WAAY-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Morgan County Health Department released health inspection scores from August 18th to 23rd for food and lodging places, revealing scores from 78 to 100—A. P. Brewer High School earned a perfect score. Several Decatur establishments and others in the area showed critical issues that have been corrected. WAAY-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ WAAY 31 will broadcast Big Game Friday Night starting at 10:15 p.m. Friday with high school football matchups in North Alabama, and the expanded version will air at 11 p.m. while games on Thursday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Aug. 29 feature teams from Decatur and surrounding areas—viewers can watch live on TV and the news app. WAAY-TV
