  • An overturned 18-wheeler has blocked northbound traffic at Gordon Terry Parkway and Beltline Road in Decatur—officers report no injuries and urge drivers to take alternate routes.  WAAY-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Loftis Steel and Aluminum plans a high-tech operation scheduled to open soon in Decatur — the $6.5 million investment will create 20 new jobs starting at about $28 per hour. The company chose Decatur for its strategic location to support North Alabama market growth with advanced manufacturing equipment.  News 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Decatur is applying for a federal grant from the Economic Development Administration to fund downtown improvements including a new parking structure and Cook Museum relocation — a plan the city council will review soon — before the application is submitted later this month.  News 19
  • Decatur Municipal Candidate Forum is streamed on FOX54+ at 6:00 p.m. today by League of Women Voters Tennessee Valley. Local residents can watch the forum on-demand using the FOX54+ app.  Rocket City Now
  • Residents in Athens, Decatur, and Madison will vote today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in municipal elections to choose mayoral and city council leaders — new officials will take office on November 3 with runoffs scheduled for September 23 if needed.  AL.com
