EDUCATION NEWS

  • Morgan County Schools approved a $495,250 bid for five Xtract One Gateway weapon detection systems that will be installed in high schools over the next 8 to 10 weeks — the systems scan up to 4,000 people per hour and will later be expanded to middle and elementary schools.  News 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A list of municipal election candidates has been released for Aug. 26—with details such as state, zip code, and country provided for each candidate. Voters can use this information to learn about who is running in the upcoming election.  Decatur Daily
  • News 19 published the second part of mayor candidate interviews featuring William 'Butch' Matthews and Suzie Wiley — the municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, August 26, following earlier discussions with Billy Jackson and Kent Lawrence released on Thursday night.  News 19
  • Priceville has secured $1.75 million for a sewer expansion that will add a new pump station and gravity main—officials will break ground at Priceville Event Center in Decatur on Tuesday at 2 p.m.  News 19
