CRIME NEWS

  • Priceville Police K-9 Unit arrested three people during a Tuesday traffic stop at 8 p.m. on Indian Hills Road and Deerfield Drive — officers found marijuana, ecstasy, and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle and took Emmitt Goode IV, Emmonte Taric Goode, and Bailey Morgan Childers into custody.  News 19
  • Decatur police arrested Devante Jaquan Taylor and Jada Nicole Kidd after a robbery at a Sunoco gas station on Beltline Road Southwest at 5:36 a.m. on August 19th—authorities are still searching for Elbert Junior Anderson and Madison Leondria Gordon, who face second-degree robbery charges.  WAAY-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. News & World Report released its latest rankings of 386 Alabama high schools, showing several North Alabama schools in the top 50. Decatur High School earned an overall score of 82.48 while other schools like New Century Tech Demo scored higher based on AP participation rates — and test results.  News 19
  • Eligible children in the Alabama foster care system can now receive up to $5,000 per year for school-related expenses provided by Embrace Alabama Kids — the Education and Training Voucher program covers trade, college, or university costs and is available to current and former foster youth, kinship guardians, and those adopted after age 16 on a first-come, first-served basis.  News 19
  • The Alabama Department of Human Resources—partnering with the Department of Early Childhood Education—announced that every foster child aged 0-5 will be automatically enrolled in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library starting in August so they can receive a free book each month. Foster parents will receive letters with enrollment details.  News 19
