CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a Madison man named Tevin Jerome Bennett, 32, was arrested in Priceville after a traffic stop on I-65 at around 1:30 a.m. when officers discovered he had active warrants and a handgun with an extended 31-round magazine—authorities will consider additional charges as they review his record.  News 19

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Morgan County has opened a new tech center at the Rural Development Park that gives nearly 100 high school juniors and seniors free college-level training in machining and medical programs — the center works with Calhoun Community College and will add courses in dental assisting, EMT, physical therapy aid and aerospace by fall through a rural medicine grant.  WAAY-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Upper River Road bridge over Interstate 65 reopened yesterday after contractors repaired damage from equipment striking the overpass and raised it 13 inches for better clearance—part of a major resurfacing project in Morgan County.  News 19
  • United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket launched the USSF-106 national security mission on August 12 from Cape Canaveral. Key parts for its booster and upper stage were built in Decatur — a sign of the city's growing role in space technology — which links the local industry to national defense.  Rocket City Now

  • The Morgan County Health Department released health inspection scores for food and lodging places inspected Aug. 4—9; scores ranged from 79 to 99 and noted critical violations that were fixed.  WAAY-TV
