ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Decatur Fire & Rescue crews responded to a house fire early Tuesday at 3:39 a.m. on the 1300 block of Camellia Drive SW—firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and all residents evacuated safely with no injuries reported.  News 19

CRIME NEWS

  • John Jacob Holland was arrested Monday on charges of elder abuse and domestic violence after Hartselle police found that a 78-year-old man suffered severe injuries (requiring intensive care, surgery, and rehabilitation) during an investigation that began on June 8 and led to a $60,000 bond (set by a Morgan County judge) at a traffic stop.  WAAY-TV
  • Police responded to a shooting call at the 300 block of Robin Road SW on Monday—finding one person dead and arresting 44-year-old Bernabe Eguia for manslaughter with a $100,000 bond while family notification is underway.  WAAY-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Berry Hill fear Integra Water's proposed wastewater facility in New Market will harm the Flint River by lowering property values and affecting local wildlife. The facility will discharge highly treated water that meets strict state and federal standards—neighbors remain unconvinced that these measures will fully protect the river and its ecosystem.  WAAY-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Madison County Commission announced that beginning today a portion of Hobbs Island Road (between Butler Basin Boulevard Southeast and Vann Road) will be closed for work to improve storm water drainage. Crews will use single-lane closures (from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) to lessen traffic delays.  News 19
