- ➤ On July 24, Decatur will host the 14th annual birthday blood drive for Angeleck Williams at Lifesouth’s Morgan Donor Center—located behind the Decatur Mall—with the event running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a goal of 200 donations under a Christmas in July theme; early donations at any Lifesouth center will count toward the total. - ➤ Luna Farms Rescue in North Alabama received a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization to support its Senior Encore Pups program — the funds will cover veterinary and dental care for senior dogs like Albert and help expand outreach to rural shelters. News 19
- ➤ Hands Across Decatur has extended its hours to help locals beat the heat by providing cool air, meals, showers, and fresh clothing, and now serves 50—75 daily visitors, up from 40—60 last year. - ➤ Decatur police executed a search warrant on Tuesday in the 400 block of 5th Avenue SW and arrested eight people in a Decatur home where officers found methamphetamine, crack cocaine, synthetic marijuana, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia and multiple firearms — one suspect, Dwain Turner Jr., was held on a $31,900 bond while the others faced charges for drug-related offenses and evidence tampering. - ➤ ICE raids in Alabama on Tuesday led to nearly 50 arrests across six counties and left immigrant communities in the Tennessee Valley too afraid to leave their homes — local legal experts warn that more raids may come as authorities target drug trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking.
