- ➤ After heavy flash floodwaters hit apartments on Harvest Road Sunday evening, the Harvest Volunteer Fire Department and neighbors rescued residents and their pets, and residents now are checking for damage as they fear more storms may worsen the flooding — no injuries were reported. - ➤ A woman is accused of assaulting a nurse at Decatur Morgan Hospital when officers responded to a disturbance Tuesday — 33 year old Sherita Michelle Burnett was arrested, charged, and taken to Morgan County Jail with a bond set at $2,500. WAAY-TV
- ➤ A 36-year-old Tennessee man out on bond for murder in New Orleans was caught after a police chase in North Alabama—where spike strips disabled his Charger and later a Dodge Challenger—while an 18-year-old was also arrested for his role in the stolen vehicle pursuit. WAAY-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Decatur City Board of Education approved a 3% salary increase for all employees on Tuesday during a board meeting — the raise will take effect in the 2025-2026 school year — and the board made the change after state funding did not include a raise. News 19
- ➤ Decatur City Schools approved Harold Swopes as the new principal for the Center for Alternative Placement yesterday. A Decatur native and 1989 Decatur High School graduate — who served as an assistant principal at Columbia High School in Huntsville and replaces Nolan Miller after his promotion to Supervisor of Student Services — Swopes brings long-time local experience to the role. - ➤ Four A.P. Brewer High School JROTC students placed in the top 10 among 40 teams at the national JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl — held in Washington, D.C. this month. Decatur Daily

- ➤ A charter outage affected Decatur City Schools and the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department yesterday, disrupting phone and internet services in North Alabama (Morgan County Schools were also impacted) when a charger failure took down the network provider. News 19
