  • Hands Across Decatur is seeing more visitors as a rise in evictions forces many families and individuals to choose between paying bills or covering rent — the nonprofit now faces a growing demand for help with housing insecurity. Director Sue Terrell explained that an eviction record makes it hard to rent new apartments, and the organization urgently needs more volunteers and donations.  WAAY-TV

  • During a Wednesday traffic stop, Priceville police found a mixture of fentanyl + methamphetamine in a Falkville man's car and arrested him, holding him in Morgan County Jail + he now faces drug charges.  Decatur Daily

  • Decatur City Council is considering a proposal to hire a tech company to build a custom online point-of-sale system for Point Mallard Park — the council has not yet shared details on cost or timing.  Decatur Daily
  • City Clerk Stephanie Simon said that four more candidates qualified on Thursday and Friday to join the Aug. 26 municipal election in Decatur—this step boosts the list of contenders for the local race.  Decatur Daily
  • Decatur’s fiscal 2025 general fund revenue increased by 5.58% over last year so far, CFO Kyle Demeester said at a midyear budget review+ city officials proposed additional paving and spending measures to improve infrastructure.  Decatur Daily
  • Decatur Police Department appointed new Police Chief Torry Mack—a Birmingham native—and incoming Deputy Chief Eric Stisher, who both bring over two decades of service and inspiration from local officers. They will soon begin leading the department with a focus on community safety.  Decatur Daily
