ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A single-vehicle wreck on Tuesday morning closed one northbound lane on Highway 31 north of the Y in Decatur — one person was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment, and drivers are urged to use caution on the road.  News 19

CRIME NEWS

  • Priceville officers arrested an Eva man — identified as Douglas Jerome Sivley, 51 — after a 12:20 a.m. traffic stop at the intersection of Mountain Valley Road and Garth Road on May 27 revealed over 5 ounces of meth, drug paraphernalia and currency, leading to charges of trafficking in dangerous drugs and unlawful possession.  News 19
  • Decatur Police Department is asking residents for help identifying two suspects in a felony theft at Ulta Beauty that occurred on May 8—anyone with tips should call the police immediately.  News 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Terrance Adkins announced his candidacy for the District 1 City Council seat covering northwestern Decatur — he co-founded Standing In Power. Councilman Billy Jackson, who has held the seat since 1996 and plans to run for mayor, and Nick Perkins, who announced his run on May 27, are also in the race.  Rocket City Now
  • The City of Decatur Recycling Department announced it will begin collecting old recycling carts on May 30 — households must leave empty and accessible carts at the curb on collection day — as new 96-gallon carts delivered between May 13 and 16 replace the old ones. Over 400 carts will be gathered and the department hopes to finish pickup within a week.  News 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Morgan County Health Department released inspection scores for food and lodging establishments inspected from May 19th to 24th in Decatur, with scores measured on a 100-point scale and two sites earning a perfect 100. Several locations had critical issues such as improper temperature controls and lapses in food safety practices—officials are reviewing the violations for further action.  WAAY-TV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pools and water parks across the Tennessee Valley opened for summer with varied hours and pricing. Point Mallard Water Park in Decatur opened on May 24 at $30 for visitors 12 and up while other sites offered family memberships and free entry for small children—residents have many options to cool off.  Rocket City Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Rocket City Trash Pandas’ game scheduled for Tuesday was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. The postponed contest will be made up as a doubleheader on May 29 at Toyota Field—game one starts at 4:05 p.m. and game two begins about 45 minutes later.  Rocket City Now
