- ➤ Priceville police arrested two women on MDMA charges after a vehicle stop just before midnight Sunday. Decatur Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Alabama lawmakers on Tuesday approved bills that will lower the food sales tax from 3% to 2% beginning Sept. 1 and exempt diapers, baby formula and menstrual hygiene products from the 4% tax — the measures now go to Gov. Kay Ivey for her signature. The Senate passed both bills by a 34-0 vote, with the food tax cut expected to cost about $121 million and the product exemptions about $13 million annually. News 19
- ➤ Decatur City Council appointed Torry Mack as police chief Monday night — he served 30 years with the Birmingham Police Department. He will start his job on June 2 — his salary is set at $151,413.72. WAAY-TV

- ➤ 8-year-old Ruger Ennis from the Tennessee valley is battling end-stage kidney disease and needs a new kidney as he receives dialysis three times a week in Birmingham; doctors say a transplant could happen in two to three months if a matching living donor is found—otherwise, he may wait nearly a year on the national list.
