EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lauren Allred, a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Austin High School, was named the Chamber’s SuperStar Teacher for April and celebrated with gift cards and a school grant (a reward for her innovative use of project-based learning and technology).  Decatur Chamber of Commerce

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors at UAB performed Alabama's first deceased donor bone marrow transplant today, using stem cells from a deceased donor to offer timely treatment for patients with blood cancers (a breakthrough that expands donor options when living donors are unavailable).  Rocket City Now
  • Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children unveiled its new ambulance to transport critically ill infants and children across North Alabama. The mobile unit provides intensive care on the road from local hospitals to the facility – reaching surrounding regions.  WAAY-TV
