  • Decatur’s United Launch Alliance rocket launched Amazon’s Project Kuiper satellites from Cape Canaveral on April 28, marking the start of a series of 46 missions to deploy over 3,200 low Earth orbit satellites—efforts designed to bring fast internet to underserved areas—after modifications were made to handle the heavy payload.   • Decatur City Schools Kindergarten teacher Deanna Martin was named the Chamber’s SuperStar Teacher for April and received a $150 gift card for her classroom, a $50 gift card for personal use, and a $1,000 grant to Banks-Caddell Elementary — an award given for her dedication to creating a nurturing learning environment.  Decatur Chamber of Commerce

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Decatur Police Department announced it is accepting applications for its 2025 Explorer program—designed to teach teenagers about law enforcement careers and offer hands-on training. The program supports youthful interest in a future with public safety.  Decatur Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Morgan County Health Department released inspection scores for food and lodging establishments inspected from April 21st to 26th that show several local Decatur spots, such as Decatur Morgan Hospital and La Hacienda of Decatur, had issues like missing food manager certificates and broken equipment—scores ranged from 87 to 99. Some problems were corrected while others may require further action to meet food safety standards.  WAAY-TV
