- ➤ Decatur Police Department is offering free Rape, Aggression, Defense training for women and girls ages 12 and up. Two sessions will run from May 25 to 27, with one session held from noon to 3 p.m. and a second from 4 to 7 p.m., and registration is open. WAAY-TV

- ➤ Students are set to produce the Rock the Block festival downtown on May 15 — it will feature live music, food trucks, a climbing wall, face painting and temporary tattoos. Decatur Daily

- ➤ A local contractor’s $1.87 million bid to renovate the Carrie Matthews Recreation Center came in $633,500 under budget, officials said. The low bid marks progress on plans to update a community facility. Decatur Daily
