CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Decatur man suspected of selling drugs was caught Friday after a chase, and police took more than two pounds of meth and some cocaine from 39 year old Steven Devon Bush, who now faces charges and is held on a $10,000 bond. WAAY-TV
- ➤ Decatur Police released body-worn camera footage from an April 15 arrest of John Daniel Scott Jr, who resisted officers' commands during a mental health call at Brookridge Apartments and suffered a medical emergency after being taken to custody—authorities are investigating the incident and remain in contact with his family. - ➤ Interim police chief Nadis E. Carlisle Jr. said that on April 15, officers were called to Brookridge Apartments for concerns about John Daniel Scott Jr.'s mental health and alleged illicit substance use and that after Scott resisted arrest—resulting in the use of a Taser and physical force—he was taken into custody and later suffered a medical emergency at Morgan County Jail while the investigation continues. - ➤ Decatur City Council announced it will hold a second interview with police chief candidate Torry Mack after another applicant withdrew, leaving him as the only candidate — the City is reopening its search due to the low number of qualified applicants — to improve department leadership. - ➤ Decatur City Council said on April 21 that it will move forward with police chief candidate Captain Torrey Mack after Theophilus Smith withdrew, and Council President Jacob Ladner said public interviews will continue next week & more updates will follow. News 19
- ➤ Alabamians are facing long lines to secure a STAR ID by May 7—one Huntsville office reported a resident waited nearly four hours. Officials advise bringing a birth certificate, a Social Security ID, and two other forms of identification to avoid delays in processing. WAAY-TV
- ➤ The Morgan County Health Department released the latest health inspection scores for food and lodging establishments inspected April 14th—19th. Scores ranged from 81 to 100 with one site earning a perfect score and several locations reporting critical violations. WAAY-TV
