  • North Alabama non-profits are facing tough cuts in federal grants—United Way in Florence lost $350,000, which will force a $50,000 funding reduction, and groups like Safe Place and the Community Action Agency are struggling to keep their services going.  WAAY-TV
  • This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to honor Morgan County's 911 dispatchers who answer many calls—from routine to life-threatening—and rely on support to stay calm.   • The Alabama Jubilee Festival will be held at Point Mallard Park in Decatur on May 24th and 25th, with a hot air balloon race starting at 6:30 a.m.—the event offers free admission and parking.  WAAY-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Decatur Police released nearly 30 minutes of body cam footage Friday showing officers arresting John Daniel Scott on April 15 after he resisted repeated Taser attempts during a call for help at Brookridge Apartments—he was taken to jail and later sent to hospital where he remains.  WAAY-TV
  • On April 15, Decatur Police responded to a 911 call from John Daniel Scott Jr.'s mother about a mental health crisis and later arrested him for an active Morgan County warrant after he became combative and refused assistance—officers released body camera footage showing his non-compliance and noted he was taken to the hospital when he showed signs of distress.  News 19
