  • Decatur Youth Services will hold its 2026 Impact Day (5 to 7 p.m.) on Thursday at Delano Park.  Decatur Daily
  • Dec Days Festival debuts in Decatur, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on First Avenue with a rooftop party from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., offering food, live music and a kid zone while benefiting local charities (Community Free Clinic, Meals on Wheels and Brothers for Life).  WAAY-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GE Appliances announced a $28 million investment to upgrade its Decatur facility at 2328 Point Mallard Drive SE with new manufacturing technology and a primary care clinic for employees (serving ages 2 and up). The upgrades are set to expand production capacity and improve the work environment.  Decatur Chamber of Commerce

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cook Museum of Natural Science will receive an extra $4 million from the state to expand its space and double its classroom area. The project is set to create more exhibits and learning opportunities for local visitors.  Decatur Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ivey signed a bill on Thursday that gives workers a $1,000 overtime wage tax deduction for tax years 2026 through 2028 + suspends the state's 2% grocery tax from May 1 to June 30 to ease financial pressure on working families.  Rocket City Now
