- ➤ United Launch Alliance said its Vulcan rocket was certified by the U.S. Space Force for national security space launches. The firm, which assembles rockets in Decatur and has invested millions in North Alabama, reached the certification after years of tests and successful flight demonstrations — a key step in its role for future U.S. space missions. - ➤ On March 26, the Chamber held its 2025 Annual Meeting at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel to celebrate its 94th year and mark a leadership change as outgoing Chairman John Holley (Dean for Technologies at Calhoun Community College) passed the gavel to Chair-elect Kelli Powers (President of Decatur Morgan Hospital) with the new fiscal year set to begin on April 1. - ➤ On March 18-19, Chamber members, community leaders and Excellence in Leadership participants went to Montgomery for the annual Public Policy Trip—they toured the Archives, State Capitol and other key sites, watched the Legislature in session and met with leaders to talk about laws, food safety and the economy. The trip gave them a chance to learn about issues that affect our community. Decatur Chamber of Commerce
- ➤ Representative Alan Baker is pushing for teachers in Alabama classrooms to wear panic buttons that alert authorities in emergencies—an effort aimed at increasing school safety. The bill passed in the House last week and will now go before a Senate committee, with the measure set to take effect on October 1 and schools expected to install the devices by 2030. WAAY-TV
