  • Florence native Kutter Bradley is set to compete on American Idol as he shares his journey in a new web exclusive, spotlighting local talent for our community.  WAAY-TV
  • Rock the South broke ground Thursday at its new Decatur location, The Fields at Decatur (a 150-acre site near Highway 24) as city officials pledge $1 million yearly support over five years to boost local economic activity. The festival runs through Saturday, June 14.  WAAY-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local schools will adjust screen time guidelines after a bill co-sponsored by Rep. Terri Collins requires K-12 classrooms to adopt new standards. Officials say the updated policies will soon be implemented to better support students and teachers.  Decatur Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama's gas tax increased from about 20 cents per gallon to 30 cents per gallon in recent years after Governor Ivey signed the Rebuild Alabama Act in (2019). The rate remains below the national average, marking nearly a 67% jump over the last decade.  Rocket City Now

  • Anna Nimz was named head coach of UNA women’s basketball on Thursday by Athletics Director Dr. Josh Looney. She brings a proven turnaround record from Northwestern State plus coaching experience at community colleges to build on the program’s recent progress.  Rocket City Now
  • Florence native Drew Stutts coached Freed-Hardeman to a NAIA title when they defeated Langston 76-71 in Kansas City on Tuesday (finishing a 35-1 season), marking his second national title in his seventh season.  WAAY-TV
