  • The Decatur Police Department is offering free self-defense training for women and girls ages 12 and up from March 16 to March 20, with three session options available—morning, midday, and afternoon. ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA offered advice to drivers in Decatur amid rising gas prices; the group advises that proper vehicle maintenance, including routine oil changes, filter checks (tire inflation and a secure gas cap), can boost fuel efficiency as gas nears $3.47 per gallon.  WAAY-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New Hope High School was recognized as a Model PLC at Work School by Solution Tree on Tuesday, Mar. 10, making it the only high school in Alabama to earn the national distinction. Principal Bryan Gustafson credited the honor to the staff's dedication + collaboration.  WAAY-TV

  • Decatur officials approved $500,000 in state funds for a Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge trail along Alabama 67 from Country Club Road, with another $500,000 to come soon; they noted concerns about costs.  Decatur Daily
