  • The Food Bank of North Alabama invites community members to donate during its Spread the Love peanut butter drive through February. Donations of jars of peanut butter or alternatives are accepted Monday through Friday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at its Distribution Center, 225 Finney Dr SW in Huntsville.  WAAY-TV
  • A petition to rename Mars Music Hall in honor of late blues musician Microwave Dave Gallaher has gathered 400 signatures; the effort follows his passing over the weekend.  Rocket City Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce will host a hiring event with AIDT and Career Connect to connect local job seekers with new opportunities. The event is part of ongoing efforts to boost employment and link talent with employers.  WAAY-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TVA is reviewing plans to extend operations at its Kingston & Cumberland coal plants at today's board meeting as growing power demands and project delays prompt a reevaluation, while environmental groups raise concerns. The decision may come as early as this month.  Rocket City Now

  • Doctors in North Alabama say children are catching more colds and flu this winter because viruses thrive indoors when humidity drops + they advise parents to use saline drops, plenty of fluids, and vaporizers to ease breathing.  WAAY-TV
