  • According to AAA, regular gasoline averaged $2.47 per gallon in Decatur on Friday, Jan. 23 (prices in Huntsville and Florence-Muscle Shoals were slightly higher). AAA advises drivers to drive smoothly, reduce idling, and use cruise control to save fuel.  Rocket City Now

  • The annual Child Safety Conference will be held on Mar. 3 at Decatur Baptist Church (2527 Danville Road S.W.) to share key child safety practices with local families and educators.  Decatur Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alabama Department of Public Health urges residents to dress warmly and use generators outdoors during extreme cold, warning that hypothermia and frostbite can occur quickly + proper generator use is needed to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.  Rocket City Now
  • Rocket City Wranglers have activated their online registration page to offer rides to healthcare workers in hazardous winter weather — ride requests will open 24 hours before the storm hits. The volunteer group aims to help nurses and doctors get to work safely this weekend.  Rocket City Now

  • Decatur's privately owned D-Bat indoor training facility will open soon with 15,000 sqft for baseball & softball players along with soccer players to hone their skills.  Decatur Daily
  • The AHSAA Central Board of Control approved a new classification system for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 high school sports seasons that creates six divisions for public schools and two for private schools—post-season play will group teams together regardless of enrollment.   WAAY-TV
